Independent travel training

Teaching independent travel training

Develop your skillset and experience in travel training with the Open Awards Level 2 award in Skills for Teaching Independent Travel.

As a qualified travel trainer, you are equipped to teach people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to travel independently. Travel independence is essential when preparing young people for adulthood, as it develops life skills and builds confidence. Travel training also can save local authorities hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Our offer

Leeds City Council can deliver the Open Awards Level 2 award in Skills for Teaching Independent Travel training course, over a period of two days at locations across the United Kingdom including our office space in Leeds City Centre.

We can deliver bespoke training in your local area if we have 10 or more interested participants. We can help you find additional participants or may be flexible on the numbers in certain circumstances. Contact us to discuss further.

Prices

Our prices for 2024:

  • £600 per person for settings and local authorities outside of the Leeds City Council boundaries
  • £450 per person for Leeds academies, colleges, and Leeds services
  • Free for Leeds-maintained schools, on the condition that they work with the children’s transport team to successfully travel train children and young people who are dependent on taxis to travel to and from school

There may be an opportunity for Leeds academies and colleges to be reimbursed with part of the training cost. This would be under the condition that students who use Leeds City Council funded transport are travel trained to use public transport to travel to school or college as an alternative.

Reviews

Our training course has also received glowing reviews from participants who have praised its effectiveness in enhancing their skills and knowledge:

“The training was extremely useful and helpful to me. I was able to take a lot of information back to my team at Greenwich and felt it is going to be very beneficial for us to begin our in-house travel training for the future.”
“Well structured, well delivered and extremely helpful.”
“Amazing trainer's knowledge supported with real life examples when real situations were discussed and learned from. Thank you, great training.”
