Creating quality compost
-
Place your bin
It’s best to put your bin on a level, well drained spot. This lets excess water drain out and makes it easier for worms to get in and break down the waste.
Putting your bin in a sunny spot can help speed up composting. You can start composting at any time of the year, but it works better in summer months.
-
Making good compost
To make good quality compost you need a good mix of greens, such as vegetable peelings, teabags and grass trimmings, and browns such as cardboard and fallen leaves. If your compost is too wet, add more browns. If it’s too dry, add some greens.
-
Using your compost
Spreading the finished compost into your flowerbeds greatly improves soil quality by helping it keep moisture and avoid weeds. Composting is the easiest way to make your garden grow more beautiful and reduce your waste.
