The Parks and Countryside Service provides education in ‘the outdoor classroom’ for thousands of school children and out-of-school clubs every year.
Outdoor education
Our education team provide sessions for school/out-of-school groups themed around all aspects of the local environment, focusing on nature, wildlife and history.
Outdoor education sessions popular with schools include farm tours and Anglo-Saxon re-enactment workshops at
Temple Newsam, pond dipping at
Middleton Park and bug hunting at
Otley Chevin. Our autumn Seed Gathering sessions take place on sites all over Leeds and provide an opportunity to help our woodlands as well as learning about how seeds disperse.
All sessions are linked to various aspects of the primary school curriculum. We are keen to get schools and groups engaged with their local green spaces and education sessions are available in parks, woodlands and nature reserves across the city, tailored to what the sites can offer and the needs of the group.
