100 Helping Hands

In Leeds we’re working hard to increase the number of foster families caring for children with disabilities to 100.

Fostering children with disabilities

Our 100 Helping Hands campaign will see us working hard to raise the number of foster families caring for children with disabilities.

We'd like to hear from families and carers who are interested in fostering children with a wide range of additional needs. This includes children who have:

  • autism or are on the autistic spectrum
  • physical impairments
  • complex health needs
  • to use a wheelchair

Many families and carers find this experience very rewarding.

Anybody can register to become a foster carer

You do not need to have experience in working with children or adults with disabilities. We will provide full training, including support groups and paid holiday entitlement.

Short breaks

We are also looking for carers with at least one weekend free, every six weeks to share with a child for a short break. Our short break carers help to create an exciting environment for the child, where they can enjoy new experiences and activities.

This also gives the child’s parents time to rest, while feeling confident that their child is being well cared for.
