How you will be charged for your care fees and what you’ll pay while you wait for a financial assessment.
While you wait for financial assessment
Your care will start when you need it. We will write and tell you if you must pay a minimum payment while you wait for your financial assessment. We will also tell your care home and they will send you a bill for it.
During this time, the council will temporarily pay the care home for any left over care fees that your minimum payment does not cover.
When your financial assessment is complete we will know how much you should have been paying. If you should have been paying more, you will need to repay the council what you owe for the care you've received.
After the financial assessment
We will write to you to let you know the result of your financial assessment.
This will show how much you will pay towards your care home costs. It will also show how much you should have been paying for your care home since you first moved there.
If you have:
- not paid enough, you will need to pay the council back for any fees you should have paid since you moved into the care home
- already been paying the right amount, you will continue to pay that amount each week
- been paying too much, we will pay the care home what you’re owed and this will go towards the cost of your future care home bills
