Find out what to do if you disagree with our decision on your financial assessment.
There are steps you can take if you do not agree with your financial assessment result.
1. Ask for a reconsideration
You can ask for your finances to be looked at again by a different finance officer. This is known as a reconsideration.
The officer will look at all of your original information and take into account any new information you give. They will let you know their decision by post, phone or email.
To get a reconsideration you must
call or write to us. In your letter, email or call you must tell us why you think the decision is wrong and provide any new information that you think is important.
2. Appeal
If you have had a reconsideration and you are still unhappy with the decision, you can appeal to the Finance Assement Team Manager.
They will look at your assessments again and check that they have been done properly according to the law. They will let you know their final decision by post, phone or email.
You can ask for an appeal by
calling or writing to us.
3. Contact the ombudsman
If you're still unhappy after your reconsideration and appeal, you can complain to the
Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman External link.
The ombudsman is unlikely to take action on your complaint if you have not had a reconsideration and appeal first.
To complain about something other than the result of your financial assessment, you can
make a complaint.
