Support with child health and disability occupational therapy

Support for children and their families to help them with every day activities at home, school and in the community.

How we can help

The Child Health and Disability (CHAD) Occupational Therapy Team works closely with children and their families. They make recommendations for equipment and housing adaptations to help children to become more independent.

They provide advice and support on:

  • how to manage everyday activities
  • personal care tasks
  • general health and safety
  • improving the home environment to make it easier to move around

Getting equipment

We can recommend specialist equipment to support your child with daily tasks such as bathing or going to the toilet. The equipment will be provided on loan by Leeds Community Equipment Stores, with no costs.

If your child needs specialist equipment at school or nursery, you can email the Children's Services Access Officer for help on cs.builtenvironment@leeds.gov.uk.

Adapting your home

We can only identify needs that could be met by house adaptations. You should speak to your landlord for advice on different ways to meet your housing needs.

If you rent with the council, you can speak to the Housing team about moving to a more suitable house for your needs.

You can also find out more about grants for adapting your home. This can include installing handrails, widening doorways or making alterations to steps.
