To make a request in writing for your own or someone else's personal information, we will need the:
- name
- date of birth
- current address
- postcode
- phone number
- email address
- previous addresses (if you have been at the current address for less than 2 years)
Proving your identity
You need to prove you have a legal right to the personal data you are requesting from us. You will need to send a copy of your identification.
Types of evidence we need to confirm identification are:
- passport
- driving licence
- council tax bill
- utility bill
Acting on behalf of someone else
If you are requesting someone else's information, we need additional evidence to prove you can act on their behalf. Types of evidence we need to confirm this are:
- authority to act on behalf of document
- power of attorney document
- child's birth certificate
- statement to prove parental responsibility
We also need to know what your relationship is to the person you are requesting information about.
Include in your request any details you think will help, such as previous addresses, dates or reference numbers.
Requesting public information in writing
If you make a request for public information held by the council under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we will need your contact information. This includes your name, current address and postcode. It will help us to have your contact number and email address if possible.

Post your request and a copy of your ID and addition evidence to:

How long it will take
We will usually get back to you within one month of getting your request. Within one month we will either:
- send you your information
- ask you for more information
- refuse your request (if we think it is manifestly unfounded or excessive)

Cost
Making a request is usually free but we may charge if we think your request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
If there is a charge we will let you know before we complete your request.

You can get advice about your request from the Information Commissioner's Office. If they think we haven't dealt with it properly, they will tell us and help you get the information.
