The reasons we use your data
We ask for your information to keep track of where the items we loan are, and retrieve them and/or apply any charges that might be incurred. We also promote and market Library services via email.
Why we are allowed to use your data
We do this because it is in the public interest and under our official authority. These services are provided under the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964. We only market our services to you if you give us your consent to do so - you can withdraw your consent at any time via your online account or by asking one of our library staff.
When computers make any decisions about you
The computer system we use will make suggestions for materials that might interest you based on your borrowing history.
When your data gets sent to other countries
We use data processors to provide these services, but your data will remain within the UK.
Organisations we share data with
Anonymised data, means individuals cannot be identified from their personal and or special category data characteristics.
Whilst anonymised data is not subject to the same restrictions placed on the processing of personal and special category data under GDPR, we want to be completely open about how Nesta will process your data and to allow you to opt out of anonymised data sharing should you so wish by removing your consent prior to the data being shared.
Please note that it will not be possible to remove consent retrospectively as the data is anonymised and therefore it is unidentifiable as your data. All data will be treated in strict confidence and in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
