A Family Group Conference (FGC) is a voluntary meeting which takes place to help find solutions to family problems.
These are free of charge and are organised by an independent coordinator. This includes finding the right place to have the meeting, sending out invitations and arranging food.
Families make the decision on who can attend and this is usually
- other family members
- friends
- neighbours
- and anyone else who you think cares about your family
How a meeting can help
The meetings help families who may be having difficulties caring for their children. The coordinator will help families make important decisions about a child or young person.
Families can discuss:
- divorce or separation
- mental illness
- substance misuse
- parenting
- conflict
- domestic abuse
- education
- poverty
- physical illness
- homelessness
These meetings are a safe space for each member to hear and talk about anything they're concerned about.
Request a meeting
For more information or to request a meeting you will need to speak with your family social worker. If you do not have a social worker, you can ask any other professional working with your family.
