When you buy a grave, you will need to sign a form and agree to the rules of the cemetery. Please
contact us for further details.
You will be given a deed to the plot when you have bought it. You can request a duplicate copy of this deed for £25.
Pre-purchase a grave plot
Due to limited grave availability, we do not have the capacity at all our cemeteries to allow for the pre-purchase of graves. New graves are only available at the time of booking a burial.

- Otley
- Upper and Lower Wortley
Transfer ownership of a grave
You can transfer the ownership of a grave and burial rights to yourself if you have inherted it. This costs £68.

Check who inherited the grave
If a Will was left
If the person who owned the grave has died and left a Will, the grave will be inherited by the person named in their Will.
If you do not know if they left a Will or if Letters of Administration were issued, you can
find a Will on GOV.UK.
If a Will was not left
If a Will was not left and Letters of Administration were not issued, the grave will be inherited by the lawful next of kin. You can
check who is the next of kin on GOV.UK.
Memorials
If you want to lease a memorial in our grounds,

Memorials are leased for a fixed amount of time. At the end of the period you can pay to renew the lease. If you don't renew it, the memorial will be removed.

Book of Remembrance entry
A book of remembrance is available to view all day in the Rememberance Rooms of each crematorium. It provides an inexpensive and lasting memorial to loved ones.
An entry may consist of two, five or eight lines including the persons name on the first line.

Kerb and barbican plates
Kerb plates are available at Lawnswood in the form of an engraved anodised metal alloy plate that is placed on the kerbs on a designated path.
Granite kerb plates are available at Rawdon and Hunslet Baby Garden. The solid granite plate contains wording of your choice plus the option to add a floral emblem to make your plate extra special and personalised to your loved one. There is also a very small container on the top of the memorial which can hold a few flowers. The plates can be purchased on a 10 or 20 year lease with the option to be renewed.
The Barbican memorial plate is available at all crematoria. The solid granite plate contains wording of your choice plus the option to add a floral emblem to make your plate extra special and personalised to your loved one. The plates can be purchased on a 10 year lease with the option to be renewed.

Sanctum for two sets of ashes
The Sanctum is available on a 20 year lease, at Lawnswood it is situated in the centre of the columbarium surrounded by history and peaceful secluded gardens and also at Rawdon in the remembrance gardens.
The above ground vaults can accommodate 2 sets of cremated remains and also comes with a granite plate onto which you can add the inscription of your choice with the option to personalise with emblem, photo or even your own artwork. There is also a small container to the front of the memorial which can hold a bunch of flowers.

We have stopped selling and renewing rose trees and shrubs at Rawdon crematorium due to wildlife damage.
Dear mum memorials at Rawdon
This range of memorials is designed specifically for children or baby gardens of remembrance. A character set and accompanying story, designed to help children come to terms with bereavement The ‘Dear Mum’ range is a selection of hand-carved granite memorials that allow an area of reflection to be created in the grounds of Rawdon crematorium. The special owl post box allows children to post letters to people they’ve lost and helps provide an outlet for their feelings.
Granite plaque memorials are available to commemorate a loved one on granite carved mushrooms and the wishing well. The granite plaque contains wording of your choice to personalize the memorial. These plaques are purchased on a 10 year lease with the option to renew.

Items on lawns
We don't allow items that could make our grounds appear neglected and untidy. These are items such as:
- ornaments
- glassware
- pottery
- planters
- fencing
- lanterns
We may remove these items if they are left. We keep them on site for people to collect if they wish to do so.
