The aim for Leeds Habitat Company is to create long lasting improvements to our public green spaces. This will benefit both wildlife and people in Leeds.
A new habitat banking vehicle called ‘Leeds Habitat Company’ has been set up and will be selling BNG units in 2025.
All land used for the delivery of BNG by Leeds Habitat Company is owned by Leeds City Council with the aim of providing developers with an opportunity to deliver off-site BNG units in the same city as their development.
Once operational, developers will be able to purchase a range of BNG units which will be delivered on public green space in Leeds.
Units available will include habitat, hedgerow and watercourse units such as lowland meadow, broadleaved woodland and ponds.
Leeds Habitat Company will be responsible for the full 30-year management, monitoring and reporting requirements of the purchased units.
All sold units will be Environment Act 2021 compliant.
